Take a look at your water usage during a colder month. If you exceed 12,000 gallons a month with a family of four, leaks may be occurring. If you want to figure out whether or not you have a leak, check your meter for changes before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter moves at all during that time, it's likely that you have a leak. Examine faucet gaskets to see if any water is coming out through the outside of the pipes.
